PKR POLLS | PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli was expecting a landslide victory in the Julau PKR division election yesterday, according to The Malaysian Insight.
“I was on the road to winning Julau, and getting the 3,000 votes,” he was reported as saying after polling concluded.
The election in the division was suspended at about 2pm after Rafizi claimed that some of the tablet computers used for e-voting system were compromised.
He claimed that software called Prey was installed on the tablets, and that it was a form of “malware.”
At least one prominent information security expert has disputed this claim.
Rafizi said that when the PKR central election committee (JPP) suspended the polls, some 800 of his supporters decided not to turn up to vote.
“I could have won Sarawak handsomely,” he said.
On the possibility of a re-election being called for Julau, Rafizi said that he is uncertain if "anyone has the energy for it," as mobilising party members in the rural area was difficult, especially in terms of funds.
“I don’t have a single sen left to organise another round."
The TMI report also quoted Rafizi as saying that his team had spotted someone “tampering” with the tablet devices at about 1pm, and that he suspected that the polls for Sabah divisions were compromised as well.
“I found it very difficult to make sense, in terms of the crowd (that turned out) and the results we got.
"We are dumbfounded, as the results were not what we had expected,” he said.
The second round of elections for Sabah, along with re-elections for a few divisions in the state, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Selangor, will take place today. - Mkini
