'Main belakang': KJ's appeal on order to pay Anwar fixed for Dec 10

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar's leave to appeal to the Federal Court on the order to pay RM210,000 in damages for defaming PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has now been fixed for Dec 10.
Initially, the date was fixed to be Sept 12 and then this was deferred to today. The matter was adjourned by the court again today and it then fixed Dec 10 for hearing.
When contacted, Anwar's lawyer J Leela informed Malaysiakini of the new date following the case management today.
"If leave is granted on Dec 10 (for Khairy) then another case management will be fixed after the hearing," Leela said.
In September last year, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur found Khairy liable of defaming Anwar for his main belakangremark 10 years ago at a ceramah in Lembah Pantai, just before the 12th general election.
“I am of the view that the words uttered by the defendant (Khairy) were defamatory of the plaintiff, within the reasonable and ordinary meaning to members of the public," the court ruled.
The Court of Appeal struck out Khairy’s appeal in February, ruling that the notice of appeal filed by his lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was “ambiguous and defective”.
In civil cases at the Federal Court, an appeal is not automatic as leave (permission) has to be gained from the apex court on a question of law. It is only after gaining leave that the hearing of the appeal will be held. - Mkini
