Bestinet: We didn’t offer RM100 mil donation to Tabung Harapan

PETALING JAYA: Bestinet Sdn Bhd has denied that it offered RM100 million to Tabung Harapan to help settle the country’s debts.
Its owner Aminul Islam said the company was forced to issue a statement as an unnamed author of an untitled article had attempted to link it to the RM100 million offer which was rejected.
In a press statement to The Malay Mail, he hoped the relevant authorities will be able to identify the author of the article.
He warned that legal action would be taken against anyone reproducing the article.
“The authorities would be in a position to obtain information as to the identity of the company that made the proposal, which would clearly exonerate me,” Aminul said.
He also said he had not had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the 14th general election.
Mahathir had announced earlier that the government had declined an unnamed firm’s RM100 million offer to Tabung Harapan as there may be ulterior motives behind the donation.
The Tabung Harapan, which has thus far collected nearly RM200 million, is to be closed on Dec 31.
On Facebook, Bestinet describes itself as an information technology organisation involved in “reinforcing public sector regulation of the non-permanent blue-collar migrant worker sector”. - FMT
