Azmin leads after 1st round of Sarawak PKR polls, but Julau may still tilt results

PKR POLLS | Azmin Ali has widened his lead in the PKR deputy presidency race after scoring a comfortable win against challenger Rafizi Ramli after the first round of voting in Sarawak.
However, his victory could be neutralised by the Julau division election, which were suspended in the wake of an alleged "cyber attack".
Based on the unofficial results for 21 divisions - excluding Julau - Azmin secured 2,848 votes against Rafizi's 1,507 votes, giving the incumbent a 1,341 majority.
However, incumbent Julau PKR chief Semana Sawang said almost 2,000 people had voted in his division, which could tip the scales in favour of Rafizi in the votes were counted or a re-election is held.
According to election scrutineers, the result for Julau before voting was suspended stood at 1,140 for Rafizi and 247 for Azmin, with about 600 "undi ragu" (votes which need to be verified by the party headquarters).
Meanwhile, in the Keningau re-election, Rafizi won by just three votes. He received 624 votes, while Azmin bagged 621 votes.
Taking into account the unofficial results from Sarawak, the overall national tally now stands at 62,418 votes for Azmin and 57,759 for Rafizi.
Overall, based on Malaysiakini's tally, Azmin has a 4,659-vote lead over Rafizi as of tonight.
At the time of writing, the results for other positions from the 21 Sarawak divisions are still unavailable.
Seven more divisions from Sarawak will vote tomorrow.
The Julau division has been mired in controversy after its membership rose from 603 to 13,549 in just one day in June.
Complaints of irregularities, including the registration of members of other political parties without their knowledge and using dubious addresses, have since surfaced and are being probed by the MACC.
However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has since cleared the division of any suspicion and contended that the membership registration process was above board. - Mkini
